Unique Student Identifier (USI)

The Unique Student Identifier (USI) is part of a 2015 Commonwealth Government initiative to help you keep track of your complete record of training results and qualifications. From 2015, all students undertaking nationally-recognised training will need a Unique Student Identifier before enrolment with a registered training organisation anywhere in Australia.

How to create your USI

It only takes a few minutes to get your USI through www.usi.gov.auYou need to have an email address and your identification document with you as you create your USI. Make sure you have one of the following documents with you:

  • Medicare Card
  • Australian Passport
  • Visa (with Non-Australian Passport) for International Students
  • Birth Certificate (Australian) *please note a Birth Certificate extract is not sufficient

Make sure you keep a record of your USI and remember your password for future reference. Register your USI now

Why do you need a USI?
Your USI will help keep your training records and results together in an online account controlled by you. Each time you enrol to study with a new training organisation, your USI will be used to store your training records and results. By having a USI you will be able to access your training records and results (or transcript) whenever you need them. For example, for a new employer or when you enrol to study at a new training organisation. Your USI can be accessed online from your computer, tablet or smart phone and gives you access to your training records and results at your fingertips: If you need help with your USI  go to Help Centre.
